Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 24, 2026
Alberta Events Buzz (“we”, “us”) operates albertaeventsbuzz.ca. This policy explains what information is involved when you use the site, in plain language. The short version: you never need an account to browse, we collect personal information only in a few specific places (event submissions and the newsletter), and we never sell personal information. We handle personal information in line with Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).
Information stored on your own device
When you save events to My List or follow venues or cities, those choices are stored only in your own browser’s local storage on your device. They are never transmitted to us. Clearing your browser data deletes them. The site also uses a service worker to cache the app on your device so it loads quickly and works like an installed app; this cache stays on your device.
Event submissions
If you submit an event through our Add Event form, we receive the details you send: your name and email address, the event information, and any flyer or image file you attach. Submissions are stored on Cloudflare (the submission record, and uploaded flyers in file storage) so that we can review the event, publish it if it fits the catalogue, and contact you about your submission. We use your email only for that purpose — submitting an event does not add you to any mailing list. If you submit a banner, we receive the banner image and the web address it links to; banners are stored the same way and are published only if approved. If you paste an event link and ask the form to read it, our server fetches that public page once to prefill the form for you — it refuses private or internal addresses, and the page is not kept. The details for organizers, including how long we keep contact information, are in the next section.
For organizers who submit events
What we collect. When you submit an event, we collect your name and email address (your contact details) alongside the event details themselves, and any flyer or image file you attach.
Why. We use your contact details to run the submission: if your event is approved and listed, we email you a confirmation with a link to its listing, and that confirmation also asks for any details that are still missing. We do not email you merely to acknowledge a submission — that acknowledgment appears on screen when you submit. At the form you may also tick an optional box — “Also email me about future events and organizer features” — and only if you tick it will we ever email you beyond your own submissions, as Canada’s anti-spam law (CASL) requires. The box is never pre-ticked, and submissions filed before the box existed are treated as transactional-only: we will never send those organizers anything beyond messages about their own submissions.
How long we keep it. Your contact details are stored in a separate record from the event itself, and that record deletes itself automatically 30 days after your event’s date (or 30 days after a rejection, if the event is not approved). Event details that are published remain in the catalogue as described elsewhere in this policy, but they never include your email address. Separately, we keep a minimal organizer record — your name, your organization type (for example government, community or private) and a count of your submissions — so we can recognize returning organizers; that record does not contain your email address, which lives only in the auto-deleting contact record described above.
Who processes it. Submissions and contact records are stored by Cloudflare, and submission emails are delivered by Brevo, our email provider. Both may process information on servers outside Canada; we remain responsible for it under this policy.
Your rights. Every email we send an organizer includes an unsubscribe link — using it deletes your contact information from our systems right away, including any permission to send you updates. You may also ask us what contact information we hold about you, and ask for it to be corrected or deleted at any time, by emailing feedback@albertaeventsbuzz.ca.
Newsletter — The Weekend Buzz
Our free Friday newsletter, The Weekend Buzz, is being set up, and we are not collecting subscriber addresses yet. If you email us to register your interest, we keep your email address only to let you know when subscriptions open. Once the list launches, subscribing will be your express consent to receive it, as required by Canada’s anti-spam law (CASL); you will be able to unsubscribe at any time, and every issue will include an unsubscribe link. We never sell or rent our subscriber list.
Analytics and click counts
We keep anonymous click counts on the site itself — for example, how many times a “Book tickets” or “Find ticket page” button was tapped in total. These are aggregate numbers with no name, account, or profile attached, and they involve no cookies and no tracking across other websites. We see statistics only — never a profile of an individual visitor.
We also keep anonymous, aggregate counts of how visitors use the site’s own tools — for example, that a search was run, a filter was changed, the map view was opened, or a saved list was shared. These counts record only the kind of action (never what you searched for, and no event or list contents), are limited to at most one count per device per day for each kind, honour your browser’s Do Not Track setting, and involve no cookies and no personal information.
We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics for aggregate page-view statistics. It is cookie-free, does not fingerprint visitors, and does not track you across other websites.
We also count visits ourselves, the same privacy-first way. When a page loads, it may send our server a tiny anonymous signal containing the random anonymous ID described below (kept only on your own device), the date, the date of your first visit, and which kind of page it was (home, a city page, an event page, or the weekend guide). From those signals we keep only totals: how many visits each kind of page received, and how many devices visit and return. We do not record your IP address, your browser details, where you came from, or which specific events you viewed, and the signal is never sent if your browser asks not to be tracked (Do Not Track). It exists so we can tell whether the site is reaching people at all — nothing more.
When you tap Like or I’m Going on an event, the site creates a random anonymous ID and stores it only on your own device, in your browser’s local storage. We store the total like and going counts for each event, plus a simple note that this anonymous ID has tapped them, purely so a tap is never counted twice. No name, account, or contact detail is ever attached to a like or a going, and clearing your browser data deletes the ID from your device.
Advertising
This site may display clearly labelled advertising. Our advertising partners, including Google AdSense, may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet. You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies at aboutads.info/choices.
Affiliate links (hotels)
Event pages include a “Stay near this event” hotel section provided by Stay22. If you interact with it or book a hotel through it, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Stay22 and the booking sites it connects to (such as Booking.com and Expedia) may use cookies and collect information under their own privacy policies, which govern your booking.
Ticket and event links
“Book tickets”, “Find ticket page”, parking, and calendar links take you to third-party websites (ticket sellers, organizers, Google Maps, Google Calendar). Those sites have their own privacy policies and terms, and any purchase you make is with them — not with Alberta Events Buzz.
If you email us
If you send feedback to feedback@albertaeventsbuzz.ca, we receive your email address and message. We use them only to read and respond to your feedback, and we do not add you to any mailing list.
Service providers outside Canada
Some of the service providers we use are located outside Canada, and information they handle for us may be stored or processed outside Canada, including in the United States: Cloudflare hosts this site and stores event submissions and uploaded files, Brevo delivers the emails we send about event submissions, and Google provides advertising services (Google AdSense). Personal information held outside Canada may be subject to the laws of the jurisdiction where it is held, including lawful access by courts, law-enforcement, and national-security authorities in that jurisdiction. We use these providers only for the purposes described in this policy.
How long we keep information
We keep personal information only as long as it is needed for the purpose it was collected for. Event submissions are kept while they are relevant to the catalogue and our correspondence about them; an organizer’s contact details are kept in a separate record that is automatically deleted 30 days after the event date or a rejection (see “For organizers who submit events” above). Newsletter email addresses are kept until you unsubscribe. You can ask us to delete your information at any time — see “Your choices and rights” below.
Your choices and rights
Under Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), you may ask us what personal information we hold about you, and request that it be corrected or deleted. Email feedback@albertaeventsbuzz.ca and we will respond. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta, the provincial regulator under PIPA. You can also unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time, and you can clear anything stored on your own device (My List, follows, and preferences) at any time by clearing your browser data.
Children
The site lists family events, but browsing never requires personal information, and our forms and newsletter are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the “Last updated” date above.
